A two-part workshop on Water and Climate Change in Africa will be held on March 22 (Part 1) and 23 (Part 2), 2013, at Duke University. Each day will bring together experts from a variety of disciplinary perspectives to focus on a sub-theme of this broader topic: 1) Water, sanitation and health in Africa; and, 2) Water, food security and climate change.

The Franklin Humanities Institute is now accepting proposals for Faculty Book Manuscript Completion Fellowships for the 2013-14 academic year. Supported by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, this program offers Duke faculty the opportunity to convene a manuscript workshop (Fall 2013) AND to receive one semester of course release (Spring 2014) in order to address the contributions of their workshop participants. Additionally, each Book MS Completion Fellow’s home department will be matched with a Visiting Professor who will take on the Fellow’s teaching duties.  Two fellowships will be offered each year, with at least one in the Assistant rank.

Proposals may be for a one or two year project. The FHI Labs are supported by Humanities Writ Large, a major campus-wide grant from the Mellon Foundation.

The PhD Lab in Digital Knowledge is accepting applications for up to 12 Graduate Scholars for 2012-13.  In our first year, the Lab will be sponsoring a number of workshops, symposia, and learn-by-doing initiatives designed to help doctoral students use new methods in their research, develop new teaching methods, and also face the job market with the most cutting-edge theories and practices surrounding digital forms of learning, teaching, online instruction, and collaborative online publishing and research. Interested students are encouraged to attend the Lab's info session on August 27 (1st day of Fall semester).
