Bridging the gap between ancient wisdoms and modern challenges
The Harmony Humanities Lab (HHL) aims to bridge the gap between ancient wisdoms and modern challenges by fostering cross-cultural, cross-disciplinary conversations both within and beyond Duke community. Together, a team of scholars, students, and other researchers engage in a series of research, pedagogical, and outreach projects, which discover, document, and bring to the public awareness traits, practices, and institutions associated with various forms of disharmony that plague modern societies, ranging from mental health crises and cancel culture to capitalist imperialism and climate change denials.
The HHL is co-directed by David Wong, Susan Fox Beischer and George D. Beischer Trinity College Arts and Sciences Distinguished Professor of Philosophy; Wenjin Liu, Assistant Professor of Philosophy; and James Miller, Professor of Humanities and Associate Dean for Interdisciplinary Initiatives, Duke Kunshan University.
