The centerpiece of Humanities Futures is the FHI's program partnerships with Duke's 18 humanities, arts, and interpretive social sciences departments. In the first phase of Humanities Futures departmental programs (Fall 2014 - Fall 2015), the FHI curated a set of inter-departmental seminars organized around broad conceptual categories – e.g. politics, performance, translation – with cross-cutting significance for scholarship in multiple disciplines (see list of inter-departmental seminars here). For Phase 2, each department has been invited to focus on disciplinary and interdisciplinary dynamics that are distinctive of its intellectual genealogy and future strategies. Departments have also been encouraged to connect questions of research more explicitly with pedagogy, graduate training, scholarly communications, and other key practices and structures in academic humanities today.
