Help Caribbean Libraries Recover from Hurricane Maria with Duke Story Lab!
Join Duke Story Lab this March as we put books back on the shelf in Caribbean Libraries impacted by Hurricane Maria! In September 2017, Hurricane Maria hit the islands of Dominica and Puerto Rico as a Category 5 hurricane. It was one of the worst natural disasters ever to hit these islands. One of the less visible consequences of the destruction was the abrupt restriction of public access to books and educational resources as libraries, public and private alike, were damaged by the storm. As people who believe in the universal power of stories, Duke Story Lab is thrilled to partner with affected libraries to restore books that were lost in the hurricane. Books and funds will go to Dominica State College, Roseau Public Library in Dominica, and Biblioteca Pública Municipal de Loíza in Puerto Rico. Our goal is to collect 1000 books and $5000 that can be used to purchase any specific books the libraries need. Contributions will be received from March 1st until March 31st. 100% of contributions go directly to putting books back on the shelf in these libraries.
